📅 14 February 2025
Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Social Development has called on the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to successfully migrate beneficiaries to the new Postbank Black Cards before the 28 February 2025 deadline.
The committee has raised concerns over the limited availability of card renewal sites, which has resulted in long queues, network issues, and delays. Many beneficiaries, especially those in rural areas, have struggled to access Postbank sites, creating uncertainty about whether all recipients will be transitioned in time.
Concerns Over Postbank Rollout
The committee expressed dissatisfaction with Postbank’s handling of the rollout, citing reports of non-operational sites and beneficiaries left without new cards. It has urged SASSA and Postbank to ensure that all recipients can collect their new Black Cards and continue to access their grants without disruption in March.
Additionally, the committee has called on SASSA to consider extending the smooth transition deadline and prevent millions of vulnerable South Africans from losing access to their grants.
