Johannesburg, South Africa – Panic has spread among SASSA beneficiaries following rumours of their Gold Cards expiring in 2024. However, SASSA and Postbank have issued a stern warning: These are scams.
Despite widespread misinformation, beneficiaries can breathe a sigh of relief. Their existing SASSA Gold Cards remain valid throughout 2024. Grant payments will continue uninterrupted, and cards can be used as usual at ATMs, merchants, and Post Office branches.
“We understand the anxiety these rumours have caused,” said Bongani Diako (Postbank Spokesperson). “However, we want to assure beneficiaries that their cards are perfectly functional. There is absolutely no need to apply for replacements.”
The confusion stems from a previous card expiry period in 2023, which SASSA and Postbank extended for the convenience of beneficiaries. However, this extension has been exploited by scammers attempting to mislead beneficiaries into switching banks or paying for new cards.
The channels for accessing SASSA grants conveniently with SASSA Gold Cards include retailers such as Boxer, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Usave, Checkers, and Spar, along with any bank ATM nationwide.
SASSA and Postbank strongly advise beneficiaries to:
- Ignore any messages or individuals claiming your card is invalid.
- Never share your card details or PIN with anyone.
- Report any suspicious activity to the South African Police Service. You can report these incidents on 0800 53 54 55.
