In a display of united support, a group of senior government officials, including MEC for Social Development in the Eastern Cape, Bukiwe Fanta and Minister of Defence Bantu Holomisa joined forces to inspire learners at Qhayiyalethu Senior Secondary School in Kareedouw.

Other government officials present included delegates from SASSA, the Sarah Baartman Municipality, CoGTA, SAPS, and the Department of Safety. The event marked the start of the school year with a focus on meeting the high needs of students.

A significant highlight was the distribution of school uniforms to all learners. This gesture aimed to foster a sense of pride and confidence, creating a more equitable and inclusive learning environment for every student.

Moreover, SASSA’s “services on wheels” program was available on location, delivering vital assistance to families by bringing social services directly to the community. This mobile initiative closes the gap for people who might struggle with accessing standard office locations, guaranteeing that support is accessible to those who require it.

MEC Bukiwe Fanta underscored the significance of education as a means to change lives, stressing that teamwork between the government and community partners is crucial for opening up opportunities for the youth. She stated:

“Education is the cornerstone of our future, and through collaboration, we can enable every student to achieve their maximum potential.”

Minister Bantu Holomisa shared this viewpoint, advocating for ongoing investment in educational institutions and local areas.

The students of today are the leaders of the future.” He expressed that it is our responsibility to provide them with the resources, support, and motivation needed for success.

The Department of Safety and SAPS reiterated their dedication to establishing safe learning spaces, allowing students to concentrate on their studies without fear for their safety.
